Water sedge grows in shallow water, muck or peat, especially in marshes, and along quiet stream banks and lake shores. It can spread to form small patches, and in time iindividuals may develop small mounds of roots called "tussocks". It is tolerant of flooding, and occasional drying. It's pale blue-green foliage is distinctive.
